QR COVID Certificate

Rules on the validity of the EU digital COVID certificate and the coordination of travel security in the EU.
As of 1 February 2022, there are new rules in place that establish a binding acceptance period of 9 months for vaccination certificates, used for travel within the EU.
A person holding a valid EU QR COVID certificate should in principle not be subject to additional restrictions, such as testing or quarantine, regardless of where they exit from the EU.
A person who do not hold an EU digital COVID certificate should be allowed to travel on the basis of a test carried out before or after arrival. Additionally, they may be required to self-quarantine or self-isolate when arriving from particularly affected areas.

The digital COVID Certificate will certify that the person:
Has been vaccinated against COVID-19, or
a negative test has been performed, or
has recovered from COVID-19.

Characteristics of the Digital Certificate

Digital or paper format

Gratuitous
Broadcast in the national language and in English
Safe and reliable
Valid in all EU countries

The intention is to guarantee mobility within the community. That is to say both to people vaccinated against the sars-cov-2 coronavirus, and to those not vaccinated, but who have negative tests, PCR or Antigen Test, for the disease.

Learn how to obtain the certificate from your national health authority by selecting your country on the interactive map below.

The booster doses will be recorded as follows: 3/3 for a booster dose after a primary vaccination schedule consisting of 2 doses; 2/1 for a booster dose after a single-dose vaccination schedule or after a dose of a two-dose vaccine given to a recovered person.

Certificate validity
Elements that make up a valid EU digital COVID certificate:

a vaccination certificate stating that at least 14 days and no more than 270 days have elapsed since the last dose of the primary vaccination schedule or if the person has received a booster dose; or

a negative PCR diagnostic test result obtained no more than 72 hours prior to travel or a negative rapid antigen test obtained no more than 24 hours prior to travel; or

a recovery certificate indicating that no more than 180 days have elapsed from the date of the first positive result of the diagnostic test.

Certificates issued after a booster shot

At this stage, the Commission does not propose a validity period for certificates issued based on booster shots. This means that the 9-month validity period should not apply to certificates issued following booster shots. It can be expected that protection from booster vaccinations may last longer than that resulting from the primary vaccination series.

We have entered a phase of the pandemic where many restrictions have been eliminated, in most countries. On the one hand, due to the circulation of less lethal variants and the increase in the vaccinated population. We should not lower our guard since we are still in a Pandemic. As a result patients continue to die and get complicated all over the world.

Therefore, we cannot specify until when the Covid Certificate will have to be used to travel.
