The San Juan de Dios Hospital in Seville was established in Nervión in 1943, when the Brothers bought a villa, Villa Amalia, in this neighbourhood. This was the ideal place to begin health care work, especially for poor children suffering from poliomyelitis or bone diseases.
With the constant aim of expanding services, in 1945 the annexed land was acquired for the expansion of the primitive Sanatorium, with its consequent complete renovation, which would be the basis for the current building. After five years of building work, the new Sanatorium Nuestro Padre Jesús del Gran Poder was inaugurated, with a capacity for 150 beds.
In the 1960s, the Centre adapted to the new needs of the environment and undertook various projects to modernise and extend its structures and portfolio of medical and surgical specialities. In 1989, the Agreement with the Andalusian Health Service was extended to include internal medicine patients from the Virgen del Rocío and Macarena General Hospitals. Palliative Care activity began with these patients. The latest remodelling has been the start-up of the new hospital in the Nervión area, a centre dedicated to health and social-health care in Seville, incorporating state-of-the-art facilities and equipment; cutting-edge medicine in a very complete portfolio of services, with medical teams with extensive and recognised experience; and with a user guidance and advisory service.
