COVID situation in China has been making global headlines in recent weeks. The widespread of this COVID variant among China’s population has prompted EU countries to impose mandatory testing and some other checks on tourists arrivals.
What Do These COVID Restrictions Include?
Member States of the European Union have been advised to increase COVID checks on travellers arriving from China, including requiring a recent negative test for the virus, asking passengers to wear masks when travelling, performing random tests on arrival and screening wastewater from incoming flights.
European countries made these recommendations on January 4. It was after an EU meeting to co-ordinate a joint response to a sudden influx of visitors from China. At this time, COVID is spreading really fast in the world’s most populous nation.
China’s New Roadmap Towards COVID
China scrapped most of its pandemic restrictions on December 7 last year. At that time, China effectively abandoned the rigorous zero-tolerance COVID policy it had maintained for three years. And, following this course of action, it has definitely loosen restrictions by opening its borders from yesterday, prompting many countries to re-impose restrictions not seen since the avian flu.
What COVID Measures Will Spain Take?
Some countries, such as Spain, have taken control measures at airports, something that the EU recommended last Wednesday.
Brussels, meanwhile, is finalising an agreement to require new COVID checks for travellers from China. In other words, the European Union is preparing to require a negative diagnostic test for any travellers coming from China. Health experts from the EU-27 meeting on Tuesday at the request of the European Commission decided to propose that this measure, which has already been adopted individually by countries such as Spain, should be a Europe-wide initiative.
